The Water-Waste Problem
In the US we use more than 1.2 trillion gallons of water every year at the faucet.
That's equivalent to filling a football stadium with water 290 times every day. It's estimated that up to two-thirds of that water is wasted down the drain when the faucet is left running between washing dishes, preparing food, brushing teeth, shaving, etc. This waste adds up to $14.5 billion per year for water we don’t even use.
The water waste itself is a tragedy, but there are other negative environmental impacts as well. We consume up to 84 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to pump, clean, heat/cool, and remove all that water. These processes can emit up to 5.4 million tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere annually.
It seems like a problem worth tackling, right?
